Chris Brown - Chair of Governors

Chair of Governing Board

Term of Office: 23/03/2022 - 23/03/2026

First and foremost, I am a parent of two wonderful girls who are currently navigating the challenging social and academic environment of school. My wife and I moved to North Devon 15 years ago. We live on a farm, and very much enjoy the local countryside and community . My career in business extends over 30 years, with directorship and management experience in logistics, leisure, manufacturing and education. I have sat on various charity committees, primarily focused on supporting disadvantaged children. I have a passion for wishing to see young children fulfil their potential, through exploration, nurturing support, and lots of fun.

I have lived in South Molton since 2017 and enjoy the local community with my two wonderful children.

I joined the Governing Board in January 2023 and have since taken on the role of Safeguarding and Data Protection lead.

As a parent, I feel I have a good understanding of our school and a good relationship with staff, other parents and pupils.

My aim is to help provide the children with an excellent education along with an emotional and environmental awareness, whilst ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the pupils is at the forefront of all we do.

I am a governor with a responsibility for Community Links

My son has special educational needs, which I dealt with at the time. I feel I have some experience and knowledge of the pressures that parents and staff have in managing this area.

My grandson is currently at the school.

I do not have a background in education but am very committed to the school and its commitment to giving the children the best education possible.

Beverly Adams

LA Governor

Chair of Teaching and Learning Committee

Term of office 08/09/2021 - 07/09/2025

I returned to the UK just before Lockdown after 9 years of retired living in France.

My husband and I moved to North Devon in August 2020 and very much enjoy living close to the wonderful beaches, National Parks and towns. Rural, with everything on your doorstep.

I was in education for 35 years, teaching in Oldham, then Hampshire and was Head for the last 13 years of my career at 3 different Junior schools.

I hope my experience will help me support the Governing Body to ensure that South Molton Primary school offers the best possible education for every child

Teaching & Learning committee

Term of office: 13/12/2023 - 12/12/2027

Hello, I’m Karen Humber and it is a privilege to be a governor here at South Molton Community Primary School. For most of my life, I have worked in primary education, with a particular interest in early years. Most recently, as an Outreach and Engagement Officer for Devon County Council I worked closely with South Molton organisations to support the health and wellbeing of the local community. I am enthusiastic about seeing children thrive and hope that my past work experiences and love for early education will benefit the children, staff, and families of our School.

I live locally and am married with two wonderful grown-up children.

I have lived in North Devon for most of my life and I maintain very strong links with the community in South Molton. I have a background in primary education, with a particular emphasis on early years - for which I am the governor lead.

I want to help ensure that all children at SMCPS receive the very best education possible - in part through using the fantastic range of facilities and environments within the school's grounds.
