Outdoor Learning

We have had lots of fun in outdoor learning this term with Mrs Davey.

Art Week

Dunkery class really enjoyed our art week on drawing and their final pieces really demonstrate all the fantastic skills and techniques they have developed.

Science Experiment

Year 6 have really enjoyed their science learning about the heart and circulatory system. They acted out how blood travels around the body, including through valves in the veins and also got to dissect a real heart, observing the chambers and main arteries.

Painting Week

During painting week, we have been focusing on our use of colour. We looked at how to create different tints and shades as well as how to create a certain atmosphere and mood using different colours. In addition to this, we looked at how to create different textures and effects through using different techniques and brush strokes. At the end of the week, we used all our new skills to create our own painting inspired by our topic on Africa.

Science

In Year 6 science we have been exploring electricity. Over the last few weeks we have looked at how to create our own circuits which light bulbs, power motors and run buzzers. We also looked at how much power is needed for each of these things and how circuits can be overloaded. In our books, we learnt how to record scientific diagrams of our circuits using the correct symbols. At the end of our topic, we applied our new knowledge with some children choosing to make their own light whilst others powered a brush with a motor, creating a "brush bot".

Sculpture Week

Dunkery class have really enjoyed sculpture week. We initially explored clay, practising techniques such as pinching, coiling and joining before creating our own two pots. We then explored Modroc which was a new material for some of the class. At the end of the week, we designed and made our own sculptures using our material of choice and inspired by our "Frozen Kingdom" topic. Overall, we have been very pleased with our final outcomes!
