Learning Summary- Settling into school and learning new routines.

Well done Bray class for settling into school so well.  It is lovely to see so many smiles and so many excited children come into the classroom.  We have had a great first week settling into school.  We began by exploring our classroom and the exciting learning resources and activities.  We have learnt the important areas of school and have started to talk and learn our class rules to keep us safe and to help us to always try our best at school.  As well as getting to know each other and making new friends this week we have enjoyed lots of stories about starting school and have particularly enjoyed 'The Colour Monster' by Anna Llenas.  This super book encourages talk about feelings and emotions.  The children drew their own colour monsters and spoke about their own feelings and how they felt about starting school.  The children enjoyed their first PE session with Mrs Holland and we had our introduction to the forest school for our outdoor learning on Thursday morning. Well done everyone on your first full week of school!

Learning Summary

Over the last two weeks we have been enjoying the story Owl Babies by Martin Waddell which has linked with our topic work ‘Let’s Explore.’   We enjoyed predicting what would happen in the story, talking about the family of owls and our own families, as well as learning some facts about owls.  We have created pictures of different nocturnal animals, sharing our ideas and talking together about the various animals.  In our outdoor learning we made pine cone owls and after learning about their habitats, we made mini owl habitats by collecting natural materials from our forest school area.  We have been learning the meaning and how to use some keys words from our stories including the words ‘nocturnal, camouflage, disguise and habitat’.  In PE we have been continuing our introductions to PE as well as working on ball skills.  In phonics this week we have been practising our oral segmenting and blending in preparation for the beginning of our Phase 2 phonics next week.  Whilst in Maths we have been sorting and grouping objects using the words: same, different, compare and sort.  Well done Bray class for some excellent engagement and enthusiastic attitudes to your learning!
