Miss Gallaway Pinkery Class

Welcome to Pinkery Class!

Our day starts at 9am and finishes at 3.15pm

PE is every Wednesday - please wear full PE kit to school on this day.

Outdoor Learning is every Friday -

please wear school uniform and bring in wellies on this day.

The start of term meant another art week, this time focussing in different printing techniques. Pinkery explored pattern linked to our topic, frozen kingdoms, before trying mono printing and block printing using cardboard and polystyrene tiles.

This week has been art week and Pinkery have been developing their painting skills. Beginning with colour mixing, the children made a colour wheel consisting of primary, secondary and tertiary colours. They then explored artists such as Van Gough, Monet, O’Keefe and Munch before trying out their styles of painting. Then having the opportunity to explore a few draft attempts, the children went on to complete some fantastic final pieces associated with African landscapes at dusk.

Today we decorated our tree cookies with natural resources before hanging them on our outdoor Christmas tree. Afterwards we developed our map skills by finding grid references of different areas around the school site.

This week we have moved onto using hand drills to make holes in our tree cookies (discs)… making us a step closer to making a Christmas decoration! While we were waiting, we explored the 8 points of the compass which links to our geography topic ready for next week.

This half term we are taking music outdoors and creating our own music using natural resources. This week we moved onto making our own musical instruments using outdoor resources and our knot tying skills. We also began using tools to cut wooden discs that we will be using to create something for Christmas later in the term.

This half term we have tried out the Boomwhackers and bells during music. Can you guess which nursery rhymes we have learnt to play?

This week as part of our outdoor learning we learnt the timber hitch and used it alongside the previously learnt clove hitch to make tippy taps!

This week in science we have been learning about the circulatory system. We made these short animations to show the journey of both oxygenated and deoxygenated blood.

In outdoor learning this week, we used our lashing skills to create a tripod, which was the main structure when creating our own African kingdoms. We also planted garlic in our vegetable patch, made bird feeders and did some bird spotting!

This week in science we explored the process of osmosis using Skittles and water. We then made predictions about what might happen to our egg specimen after being soaked in vinegar and then food colouring.

This week Pinkery class have worked hard on creating comic strips portraying the beginning of the African slave trade and completed a scientific investigation about the heart rate. Children persevered in finding their pulses to explore the changes that happen between resting and exercise.

Here is the video of our fantastic year 6 day surfing.

Our first week as Pinkery class was full of art, focussing on learning the skill of drawing. Linked to our topic, the children used shades and tones to bring their drawings of wild African animals to life. We also completed our online safety unit as part of our computing lesson.
